Join us for an unforgettable evening with internationally acclaimed pianist Minsoo Sohn, celebrated for his masterful interpretations of the classical repertoire. In the first of two concerts dedicated to the sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven, Sohn brings his expressive depth and virtuosic precision to four of Beethoven's iconic sonatas: the “Moonlight,” “Pathétique,” Sonata No. 28 in A Major, Op. 101, and the fiery “Appassionata.”

In 2020, marking Beethoven’s 250th anniversary, Sohn completed a four-year project performing and recording all 32 piano sonatas, along with the Diabelli Variations and Bagatelles. Recitals took place at Seoul Arts Center, with recordings at Tongyeong Concert Hall, culminating in Sony Classical’s nine-album release of the complete sonatas.

This is a rare opportunity to experience the emotional breadth and technical brilliance of Beethoven’s music in the hands of one of today’s most compelling pianists.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Minsoo Sohn is a Korean-American pianist known for his musical intelligence and masterful virtuosity — qualities that have earned him acclaim throughout the United States, Canada and Korea. This season, he has appeared at the Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Verbier Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and La Roque d’Anthéron Festival, as well as with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sohn previously held teaching positions at Michigan State University and the Korean National University of Arts before returning to his alma mater, the New England Conservatory, as a faculty member in the fall of 2023. Sohn is deeply indebted to his mentors, Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun, with whom he studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

With a generous gift from the estate of Martha Cooke, we are thrilled to bring you three annual concerts and masterclasses with Minsoo Sohn. The donation also earmarks two substantial funds for piano maintenance at the School of Music. Proceeds from this concert will contribute to this legacy fund benefitting our pianos.
