Event Description
The Jazz Nebula Quartet performs the music of legendary composer and pianist George Gershwin. George Gershwin's compositions spanned both popular (“Summertime,” “Embraceable You,” “I Got Rhythm”) and classical genres (Rhapsody in Blue”). His outsized contributions to American music led to numerous prestigious posthumous awards following his early death in 1937 at age 38. In 1985, George and Ira Gershwin were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal (only three other songwriters have achieved this). The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was created in honour of George and Ira Gershwin in recognition of the profound and positive effect of popular music on culture. The Jazz Nebula’s Quartet, featuring Kim Szabo (piano, vocals) and John Reid (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) will perform a selection of Gershwin's popular songs. Doors open at 1 pm and the show starts at 2 pm. ThIs is the third concert in a series of six concerts presented by Jazz Nebula at Scarboro United Church for its 2025-26 season (The Great American Songbook, Horace Silver, George Gershwin, The Great Saxophonists, Cole Porter, and Thelonious Monk). See the coloured brochure below for more details. For more information contact: John Reid, JAZZ NEBULA Artistic and General Director, (403) 605-5876.
