Beats Pacific and The Downbeat Present:
Back 2 Back
Ft:
Primitive B2B Guru
Matterson B2B Guru
Khan B2B Guru
Beats Pacifik is proud to present Back to Back, a night dedicated to the inability to plan. Pairing DJs with similar styles that aren’t the usual duo, with little practice and no plan to bring the full spontaneity of professionals reading the dancefloor. Back to Back will feature a mix of genres to take you on a journey through the spectrum of electronic music.
The second edition is going to go down a little differently, as I have so much respect for each of these fine selectahs that I wanted to jam with them all. To start the night we have the man, Khan to kick things off with his deep worldly smoothness paired with Guru’s deep techy tribal and afro influenced house. Next we bring the sounds of Matterson, a master of the party pumpin’, hard hittin’, dance til your feet hurt house, paired once again with Guru’s disco house styles and just a touch of garage to keep the dance floor vibrating. If you were at Tri-Unity in June 2025 you know how this one is likely to go down. Finally, because we can’t not have DNB on the bill, we’re very excited to see Primitive, who’s Drum and Bass sets are informed by 25 years in the game- hard edged, yet soulful, jungle informed Drum n’ Bass rollers. Paired with Guru’s own liquidy smooth atmospheric tones and cerebral stompers, this set is sure to be the perfect way to roll out the evening. Not to mention it is Primitive’s birthday jam.
If you were there for the first edition of Back 2 Back, you know this is a night of spontaneity. Most of us have never played together and we won’t be planning anything other than keeping the vibes high while the feet keep moving.

All Primitive ever wanted was to rock a party and he is guaranteed to create a sweaty mess on the dance floor. Never one to be limited by genre, Primitive’s sound connects the dots between Techno, House, Breaks and Acid, while also dabbling in offshoots of Drum and Bass including Footwork, Juke, Half Time, and Jungle. A DJ’s DJ that can burn down any dance, Primitive sets are system flexing- think big psychedelic festival set crossed with sweaty late night house party and be ready to get all the way down.

Matterson
After being inspired by the countless local events featuring local and international DJ's, Matterson decided to take up the craft himself. Starting with the electro craze of the late '00 era, he first played parties for Sonica Late Nights and Westcoast Funktions where he learned much about the craft. As time moved forward, he started contributing to local burn community events, growing into a more mature house sound in the process. Today he is one of the founding members of the Jellyfish Crew, providing quality events on Vancouver Island. Funky, Deep and Tech areas of House showcase his ever increasing development.

Khan
With decades of experience behind the decks, Khan's unique sonic identity draws
inspiration from Middle Eastern melodies and a spectrum of electronic genres. From
the pulsating depths of Deep Dubstep to the infectious grooves of Trance,
Progressive, Funky, and Bass House, his sets are a testament to his wide-ranging
musical expertise. Yet, it's the intricate infusion of traditional Middle Eastern elements,
juxtaposed with the raw machine energy of electronic music, that truly sets him apart.
This vibrant contrast creates a sonic tapestry both organic and exhilarating.
Inspired by the boundary-pushing sounds of Sasha, John Digweed, and Widdler, Khan
has graced prestigious events like Shambhala and Basscoast. He's held residencies
with renowned collectives like Beheshto Productions and Area709, showcasing his
ability to ignite dancefloors with diverse, yet always captivating, soundscapes.
Whether delving into Tech rhythms, exploring the soulful side of Progressive, or
unleashing the energy of Bass House or Trance, Khan's music is more than a collection
of tracks. It's a sonic journey woven with cultural threads, inviting listeners to lose
themselves in an immersive auditory experience where the organic and the electronic
dance in harmony.

The Guru
From the sunny beaches of Canada, emanating from the Zen Den a dulcet tone rings out. Hailing from a mystical land known as “The Basement,” The Guru cultivated his love for music while scouring record collections. Through drums The Guru discovered a love for the rhythms that beat deep within us. Armed with a pair of turntables and a collection of music that rivals most libraries, he embarked on a journey to share his means of meditation with the world. His mission? To ensure that everyone gets to ride a sonic wave of ripping Amen breaks, pumping Disco drums and even the odd dub echo on a journey into music.
