Event Description
Back by request, an RN facilitated overview of medical directives, MAiD, hospice and palliative care.
We begin the afternoon with a light lunch and welcome, and then dive right into our session.
Death isn't a medical moment, it is a deeply human one. Yet most of us have no idea how to talk about it.
Have you ever:
- felt helpless in the face of death
-wanted to know what to say to our patients
-been curious about end-of-life conversations
This overview of death and dying will give you a better sense of what death looks like, how to hold space for it and what to do to prepare.
- A Canadian documentary provides the foundation for our afternoon, showing how end-of-lfe care is provided within our healthcare system.
- Alberta's medical directive, the "green sleeve" is reviewed and we show how it is the patient's voice when they cannot speak for themselves.
- There is a live navigation of the website "dying with dignity".
- Clarification of hospice, palliative care and EDiH (expected death in the home), and legal documentation needed for each.
The informal part of the afternoon takes us to the fireside lounge where we can further discuss and unwind after this intense education session.
Please see the agenda for full description of the event.
