“Easy Dan: Pared down acoustic takes on the legendary Steely Dan songbook ” Steely Dan's discography is one of the most revered in rock history. Their singular blend of hook laden jazz infused rock and pop, coupled with unmatched production values and stellar musicianship, have stood the test of time and built a highly devoted and loyal fan base that spans generations. SD tribute bands are nothing new of course, but the high standards of execution and demanding musicality of their catalogue make putting and keeping one together a notoriously difficult lift. As Easy Dan's byline notes, we take a different approach that we think is unique. The high level of execution and musical sophistication is still there of course, but the sound is more "unplugged" and acoustic, retaining the essence of the material without trying to sound exactly like the classic albums. Anchored by Ian Menzies on vocals and nylon string acoustic guitar, the ensemble can scale all the way from solo performance, up to as many as 6, or even 7 musicians. The most common format though is a 4 piece, with an upright bassists, percussionists, and background vocalist joining Ian to create familiar and full sounding versions of all their hits, and many deep cut gems as well. We'll often bring along a guest soloist too (usually either on electric guitar or sax), delivering an even more satisfying Dan experience for the audience - and response to the couple of shows we've played so far has been extremely positive. As well known and dearly beloved as Steely Dan is, there aren't a lot ensembles out their who exclusively perform their stuff. Easy Dan is here to change that, one gig at a time.
