EASY DAN (ACOUSTIC INTERPRETATIONS OF STEELY DAN)
FEAT. IAN MENZIES
The brainchild of music industry veteran Ian Menzies, Easy Dan taps local players to celebrate the music of Steely Dan acoustically.
The legendary music of Steely Dan truly speaks for itself – and when Easy Dan performs, they let it do all the talking! With a pared down acoustic line up, they play all the classics from the Fagen and Becker songbook – keeping the focus on the duo’s sophisticated songcraft and soulful jazzy vibes, without getting caught up in the tyranny of note perfect replication. The result is a deeply reverent celebration of a musical canon that has stood the test of time like few others.
With acoustic guitar, upright bass, hand percussion, saxophone, and harmony vocals, the 5 piece ensemble draws songs from all 9 of The Dan’s studio albums, tapping into the essence of their singular 70’s style. With a couple of recent sold-out shows under their belts, Easy Dan is quickly becoming a welcome addition to Calgary’s dynamic and thriving live music scene.
Featuring: Ian Menzies (vocals/acoustic guitar), Jeremy Coates (upright bass), Bob Fenske (percussion), Amanda Babalola (vocals), Cody Kubik (saxophone), plus surprise guests.
