Felt Hat-Making: Design & Create Your Own Felt Hat 2-class workshop In this small group class, everyone is involved and moving. It isn’t a lecture – it’s a great opportunity to spend time with a special friend or family member, to satisfy a deep curiosity or release your inner creativity - and just in time for chilly weather and seasonal gift-giving! In session one, you will receive a customized measurement from Marcia to determine your perfect hat size, choose your hat block from the assortment of antique (and not so antique) options and make the all important decision: the material you would like to use for your special hat. Then it’s time to put on the apron! During this hands-on segment, you will learn how to block your hat and create the final shape of your masterpiece. There will be a live demonstration from Marcia and she will then work with you to steam and form your hat blank onto your chosen block. Session two begins with removing your dry hat from the block. This will be the first time you get to try on your creation! Now it’s time to complete your hat with the inner headband, strengthen the edge of the brim, and add the hat band and trims that will make your hat truly unique. Some hand sewing experience is helpful but not necessary. Bring your enthusiasm and any special buttons, trims or feathers you may want to use. All other necessary supplies are provided! This introductory 2-session workshop will give you enough base knowledge to create your own hats at home.
