Event Description
Celebrate the joy of walking with Lori Beattie, intrepid urban explorer and author of Calgary's Best Walks.
Discover how Lori moves through the city, connecting communities on foot and searching out folk art, little libraries, big views, hidden stairways and conversations.
We'll travel along the Bow River Pathway and onto the side streets of the colourful and eclectic Inglewood and Ramsay. Murals, little libraries and my pups favourite dog treat library are all part of the walk as we make up way to the top of Scotsman's Hill. We'll soak up the views before descending to the Elbow River Pathway. A walk north along the river path leads us to the Confluence, where the Elbow and Bow Rivers meet. If timing allows we'll walk through St. Patrick's Island or we'll take Inglewood side streets back to our starting point. Walkers are welcome to break away from the pack to soak up the people populated 9th Avenue. It is the perfect street to head to if you need to replenish lost calories with a tasty and refreshing pick me up (coffee, ice cream, beer)!
YOUR WALK LEADER: Lori is the author of Calgary's Best Walks and Calgary's Best Bike Rides. A passionate urban explorer, loves getting outside and moving through Calgary and beyond under her own steam, discovering new views and perspectives along the way. She walks and bikes in search of big nature, hidden pathways, farmers’ markets and shops, gardens, cafés, folk art, and conversations. She writes about walking and biking in various publications and she presents to groups about the pleasures of exploring Calgary and beyond on foot and by bike, building community through walking and making Calgary feel like home, one step and pedal at a time. Lori leads Calgarians and visitors on walks, hikes and snowshoe days with her company Fit Frog Adventures. Connect with Lori on Instagram @lorifitfrog or at www.fitfrog.ca
MEETING SPOT: Pearce Estate Park parking lot: 1440 17a St SE. We will meet in the parking lot.
WALK NOTES: Steep slopes, uneven terrain, fast paced / covering a lot of ground. Kids welcome! The walk will be about 7.5 km. Short breaks will happen as the group collects but this walk is mostly about movement and connecting communitites.
***Please note, we ask that folks cancel their tickets through Eventbrite if they can no longer make it to a walk as tickets are limited. This allows folks on the waitlist to take open spots.***
