Event Description
Strengthen collaboration, adaptability, hope, and creative leadership by using improv tools to navigate climate uncertainty in community.
Climate resilience is not only about infrastructure and policy. It is also about how we think, relate, and respond under pressure.
This interactive workshop introduces practical improvisation tools that strengthen the mindsets and collaborative capacities needed for meaningful climate action. Grounded in civic innovation and real-world facilitation practice, participants will explore how improv techniques help individuals and teams navigate uncertainty, build trust quickly, communicate across differences, and move from paralysis to possibility.
Facilitated by:
• Pablo Zacarías, Executive Director of CityStudio Vancouver, transdisciplinary civic innovation leader, and professional comedian whose improv practice informs his work in systems change and collaborative leadership.
• Aphrodite Bouikidis, Program Coordinator at CityStudio Vancouver and urban resilience specialist with over 10 years of practitioner and research experience in community resilience, disaster risk, and climate change adaptation.
• Sahar Safaie, founder of Sage on Earth Consulting and climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction specialist with nearly 20 years of experience bridging technical expertise with policy and governance challenges at global, national, and local levels.
This session blends reflective dialogue with experiential exercises in a focused and supportive environment. You will not be asked to perform. Instead, you will practice accessible techniques that support adaptive leadership, creative problem solving, and collective resilience.
What you will gain:
• Practical improv tools to build trust and respond constructively in uncertain environments
• Techniques for deep listening and collaborative decision-making
• Greater confidence navigating complexity and climate uncertainty
• New approaches to climate challenges grounded in courage, creativity, and shared responsibility
Designed for civic leaders, students, sustainability professionals, educators, and community builders, this workshop offers practical skills to strengthen climate resilience in your work and communities.
