Learn to mend your clothes using the blanket stitch method! Join us in learning three ways to adapt the principles of the blanket stitch to repair different kinds of garment damage; holes, tears, and larger areas of wear (for example, on the elbows or knees). Attendees are encouraged to bring items from home they wish to repair (clothes/textiles with holes or rips). This beginner friendly workshop will be guided step-by-step and all materials (aside from the garments to repair) will be provided! About the facilitator: Taz Rowan Graham (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist of Irish, Swedish, and German descent. They live as an uninvited settler on Turtle Island on the unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, also known as “Victoria, BC”. Taz views their creative practice as one of finding, forging, and fortifying connections, revealing the invisible threads that tether us to one another in innumerable ways. Their work engages modes of narrative building through textiles, print media, video, sculpture, painting, and installation, to explore concepts such as transgender identity, disability, collectivism, memory and grief.
