Kakizome New Year Calligraphy: Start the year with Kakizome, the traditional first calligraphy writing of the year. Write your aspirations and resolutions with a brush and ink. All ages and skill levels welcome!
Classic Japanese Games: Challenge your friends and family with traditional games:
Shogi & Igo: Test your strategy with these classic Japanese board games.
Karuta: A fast-paced card matching game often based on poetry.
Gaji/Hanafuda: A beautifully designed card game.
Kid-friendly board games are also provided.
Lion Dance by Rakuichi: Don't miss the thrilling and auspicious Lion Dance (Shishimai) performance by Rakuichi! A vital part of Oshogatsu, the lion dance is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.
Amazake Making Demonstration with Sen Sakamoto of Kintoki Sweets: Enjoy a free tasting of freshly made amazake during the demo, while supplies last! Hourly, on the hour, in the IG Room.
Kadomatsu: Admire the traditional Kadomatsu (pine and bamboo) decorations, symbolizing longevity and prosperity for the coming year.
Hawaiian Hula Dance Class: Join a free class from 2-3pm in the budojo for beginners. (18+)
Open House with Our Instructors: Meet our talented instructors and learn about our programs.
