Event Description
Out of the Shadows: Reclaiming Jewish Stories
Personal and historical memory are fundamental to how Jews understand themselves.
Over the past few years, Jewish storytellers have struggled to (re)claim their voices at a time when Jewish people and their stories are being silenced, those experiences being delegitimized.
At Out of the Shadows, we invite you to join us for a screening of David Bercovici-Artieda’s The Fast Runner, a short film telling the story of a young girl’s courage in the face of the Holocaust, followed by a panel discussion featuring the filmmaker, plus:
• Playwright Mark Leiren-Young, whose recent play Playing Shylock addresses the cancellation of a performance of The Merchant of Venice, and
• SFU professor Dr. Lilach Marom, whose recent research reports on Jewish experiences in academia and the exclusion of antisemitism from most EDI policies.
This discussion will be moderated by Marsha Lederman.
Co-presented by Chutzpah! Plus and Pacific Legal Education & Outreach Society.
Partial proceeds will go to supporting the Antisemitism Legal Hotline.
