Event Description
Outsiderness is a personal documentary by Carlo Alcos, a 2nd-generation FIlipino-Canadian whose parents immigrated to BC in the early '70s. The film explores themes such as identity and belonging from his perspective, that of a brown kid who grew up in a predominantly white suburb and learned to assimilate in order to fit in. In the film, Carlo uncovers what he has sacrificed through adapting and conforming and tries to discover what true belonging means.
After the screening, stay with us for a heartfelt panel conversation—moderated by Chris dela Torre of CBC’s The Homestretch and co‑organized with Filipinos Rising—deepening the film’s exploration of identity, belonging, and the Filipino‑Canadian experience.
