Event Description
Don't miss out on a night of some of Vancouver's best indie music. Join Pinebarren as they release their new EP, Arbutus along with friends Post-Modern Connection (PMC) and Haleluya Hailu.
// Pinebarren is an indie rock band based in Vancouver, BC, formed by members from across the world. Their sound blends the melodic sweep of The Killers with the warmth of Tom Petty and the atmospheric textures of Radiohead, creating a nostalgic yet contemporary style that listeners and reviewers have described as glistening, polished, and emotionally direct. Since forming in 2019, the band has built a reputation for tight songwriting and dynamic live shows.
Pinebarren’s upcoming EP, Arbutus brings together the bands ‘evolving sound and the themes that shaped it; a record about resilience, renewal, and holding steady through change. Blending mid-2000s indie, ’90s alt-pop, and ’80s synth-rock, the EP pairs sweeping synths, sax textures, and punchy guitars with songwriting that reflects both personal reflection and collective uncertainty. Like the west-coast tree it’s named for, Arbutus embodies the idea of growing stronger in challenging terrain.
// Post-Modern Connection is an indie band formed in 2016 by university friends Georges and Tega, who released their critically acclaimed sophomore EP A Welcome Change in November 2023 via Unbelievably Spectacular, earning praise from CBC, Much Music, Exclaim, and others while charting on NACC and Earshot. With over 2 million streams, a sync placement on CBC Gem’s Run the Burbs, and performances across Western Canada including Juno Fest, the EP—produced by Tyler Niel Johnson—marks a major milestone in the band’s growth.
// Youthful, and banging. Vancouver-raised singer-songwriter/producer and multi-instrumentalist Haleluya Hailu has become a local musical staple.
Eclectic, energetic and constantly moving, Hailu manages to turn the awkward transition to adulthood into songs that anyone could lose themselves in.
