“Second Wind” is the story of five Ukrainian heroes: four veterans with lower-limb amputations and one active-duty servicewoman who climbed Africa’s highest peak — Mount Kilimanjaro.

📅 Friday, March 13th
📍 Rio Theatre,
1660 E Broadway, Vancouver
⏰ Doors Open: 7:45 PM
⏰ Screening Start: 8:15 PM
The screening will be in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
This is a deep human story about recovery, inner transformation, dignity, and the strength to move forward despite trauma. The film follows the protagonists’ journey from pain and doubt to self-acceptance, new life direction, and a renewed sense of self-worth.
The project was created by the charitable movement “Second Wind” in partnership with the foundation “If Not Now, When?”. The film is directed by Mariia Kondakova, a French-Ukrainian documentary filmmaker known for her sensitive and honest exploration of war, trauma, and human resilience.
Meet the Film Team (Q&A)
Following the screening, there will be a live discussion with members of the project team, including:
• Oleksandr Pedan — producer and host of the project
• Vladyslav “Shatya” Shatil — film protagonist and veteran
Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear firsthand about the journey from injury to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
The Canadian screenings of the film carry a charitable mission. Proceeds from ticket sales will support the rehabilitation of Ukrainian veterans through the initiatives of the Canada–Ukraine Foundation, which provides comprehensive physical and mental health rehabilitation programs for Ukrainian heroes. By attending, you are not only taking part in a meaningful cultural event, but also contributing directly to the recovery of Ukraine’s defenders.
Life goes on. Victory is possible — no matter what. Join us and become part of this story.
