February: ICY WORLDS! Space Camp Saturday is back for February with a super cool topic: ICY WORLDS! Join us on Saturday, February 28, from 2–5PM at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre for an afternoon of discovery. Start with our feature talk, When the Universe Snows, presented by UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy. What is ice, and what role does it play in the cosmos? Far from being a passive byproduct of cold environments, ice help build planets, influence atmospheric chemistry, drive climate feedbacks and could protect life. This talk reveals how the everyday properties of ice—its crystallinity, stickiness, buoyancy, and reflectivity—lead to the extraordinary roles it plays in shaping our Solar System and worlds beyond. Speaker Bio: Yiming T.Xu 徐一鸣 Graduate Student at UBC studying exoplanetary atmospheres Imagining embodied experience beyond human existence Then watch our immersive planetarium show - Worlds of Ice. Worlds of Ice invites us on a journey to the farthest reaches of the solar system, travelling through the many dimensions of ice, from the territories of the Arctic to a scientific complex nestled under the South Pole. Perfect for ages 10+ (This is your last chance to watch this film in our immersive 360 degree Planetarium. Don't miss it!) Collect the pieces of your blown mind and dive into a scavenger hunt designed to spark curiosity and exploration. Complete the challenges in the activity guide and earn your certificate! This is your chance to explore another one of the Universe’s most fascinating phenomena in a fun, family-friendly environment, perfect for budding astronomers and space enthusiasts of all ages.
