Event Description
The Ethan Lawrence Quartet is Ethan Lawrence, Liam Carsley, Benjamin Millman and Karl DeJong: a dynamic, inventive musical project which seeks to celebrate the relationship between the mechanical and the biological. Hanging in the balance between texture and groove, the ensemble (composed of two modular/traditional synthesists, a keyboardist and a drummer) weaves tapestries of sound spanning from ambient to techno. The group performs free of any pre-recorded material, relying on their tools and expertise to navigate prewritten themes and quests of improvisation. As a result, every performance is incredibly special, and draws the audience into a unique relationship with the band—a unity born of freedom and exploration.
In a world in which we are increasingly numbed by the digital and the synthetic, the quartet aims to breathe life into these spaces—to represent at all times the sensitivity, creativity, excitement, joy, sorrow and ultimately humanness inside each one of us, not in spite of technology but rather augmented by it.
