While some series are driven by a single showrunner, most are collaborative — a staff of writers working together, not unlike a band. In this immersive, day-long workshop, Rick takes on the role of showrunner, leading a group of writers in breaking a brand-new episode of a fictional reboot of HBO's Six Feet Under — a series Rick wrote and produced from its first season through its landmark finale. The new episode will center on six young adult characters, each introduced as children in the original series. Together, this workshop group of writers will pitch ideas, build characters, and experience firsthand what it's like to be inside a real writers' room. No prior familiarity with Six Feet Under is required, but fans of the show will find the premise especially exciting. Please note: the episode created in this workshop is a purely creative exercise, unaffiliated with HBO and in no way connected to any potential reboot of the series. Rick Cleveland is an Emmy winning television writer/producer, screenwriter and playwright whose credits include "The West Wing," "Six Feet Under," "Mad Men," “Nurse Jackie,” “House Of Cards,” “Archer” & “Legit.” Aside from his six Emmy nominations, he also won three Writers Guild Awards and the Jury Award for Best One Person Show at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado for his play My Buddy Bill. His screenplay for Runaway Jury was nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award and his plays have won grants from the National Endowment for the Arts & the Kennedy Center’s Fund for New American Plays. He received his MFA from the University of Iowa and in his spare time he mentors young writers for the WGA Foundation’s Veteran’s Writing Project.
