VGS presents Music On The Town: An Evening of Guitar
The Victoria Guitar Society, a local nonprofit organization committed to preserving and promoting classical guitar music, presents Music on the Town, an instrumental showcase of four of the most brilliant and mesmerizing guitarists that our city has to offer.
The evening's lineup features a diverse lineup local guitar performers including Michael Dias, Nicole Payie, Christopher Boston, and Mischa Smirnov. Each will be playing a wonderful variety of classical, Spanish, baroque and modern musical selections.
These artists will perform solo and in collaboration, creating a one-of-a-kind concert that celebrates the rhythm, mastery, and sensuality of classic guitar music. Expect a performance rich in mastery, style, and connection – a true display of the richness of our island guitar community.
About the Artists:
Nicole Payie - An eclectic performer, Nikki Payie is a classical guitar local standout. She holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Victoria and A Masters of Music from the University of Ottawa and teaches at the VCM.
Michael Dias - A regular feature with acts as the Victoria Symphony and Aventa ensemble Michael is a stalwart of the Victoria Guitar scene. He completed his Masters of music at Uvic with the late Dr. Dunn, as well as a PhD in musicology.
British guitarist Louise Southwood is a passionate musician whose technically and emotionally precise performances have enchanted a diverse audience around the world. Louise holds a Bachelor of Music honours degree from the prestigious Royal College of Music in London where she studied with world renowned guitarists Carlos Bonell and Gary Ryan. She has been performing and teaching for over 25 years worldwide whilst recording two CDs. Louise is a dedicated guitar teacher based at her home studio in Victoria and The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music.
Christopher Boston - A true master of the guitar, the virtuosic technique and musicality of Christopher is not in question. Born and raised in Victoria, Christopher is an exciting player who completed his masters in Germany and his doctorate at Florida State.
Misha Smirnov - After escaping the Siberian Tundra’s icy grip, Misha now coaxes warm, finessed melodies on classical guitar.
