Event Description
Women in Science is a one-day educational event at Victoria Butterfly Gardens celebrating International Women’s Day through hands-on talks and guided experiences led by women working across the natural sciences. Guests will meet real scientists, explore fields from animal care and horticulture to astronomy and paleontology, and see how women are leading discovery in STEM.

Entomologist Beth leads a guided Insectarium tour, teaching guests how to identify insects and arachnids, observe metamorphosis, and understand why insects are essential to healthy ecosystems.

Astronomy: Women Who Reached the Stars
Presented by Abby, Astronomy Educator from the Centre of the Universe, this talk introduces guests to women who helped humanity explore space, inspiring curiosity about the universe beyond Earth.

Plants: Women Who Grow the Jungle
Horticulturist Jacinda shares the science behind maintaining a tropical conservatory, plant biodiversity, and the unique adaptations that help rainforest plants thrive.

Hosted by Fossil Restoration Technician, Nox of Dino Lab Inc., this session explores how fossils are formed and how scientists reconstruct ancient life from fragments of the past.

Led by Animal Care Lead Elandra, this session explores bird and reptile anatomy, daily animal care at the Gardens, and hands-on learning with feather touch tables and short guided tours.
Plus guests are encouraged to participate in a self-guided Women in Science activity challenges throughout the Gardens.

Meet the women-led community initiative Passport to Science - connecting families with STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Art and Math) organizations to make science accessible, affordable, and fun. Learn about their free events, discounted partner visits, and year-round programming designed to spark curiosity and empower learners of all ages.
