Intro to Directing with Kathryn Smith COURSE DESCRIPTION: As a director, how do you get your vision from page, to rehearsal, to being in front of an audience? How do you communicate all that to a full team of artists? In this day long workshop, you will gain fundamental tools in directing for the stage: how to communicate with actors and designers; early stages of planning a show; how to direct in a way that is collaborative but concise. Professional director Kathryn Smith will facilitate this workshop and celebrate the art directing – especially the challenging parts! *This workshop is intended for anyone interested in directing. No prior directing experience is required. *This workshop is for ages 18+ INSTRUCTOR BIO: Kathryn Smith is a queer and trans theatre creator who has worked across Canada for the last 10 years. They love queer art, supporting their community, their partner Lara, and their dog Scout. Since 2022, Kathryn (or KP) has been the Artistic Director of Verb Theatre - a Calgary based independent theatre company that focuses on producing ‘tomorrows theatre today’. Kathryn has spent their career on new work development, producing and directing independently. They are also an award winning singer songwriter under the name KP Smith.
