Bjornson) is a DJ based out of Victoria, BC, Canada (the unceded territories of the Lkwungen peoples). While interested in music from an early age, it was not until studying computer music in University--an experience which introduced him to a wide range of musical styles--that he became interested in electronic music. This combined with his first experience with dance music in the late 2000s resulted in an obsession with selecting the best sounding music and making people groove. Dataist is a DJ, producer, co-founder of Half Past Vibe Records, and the creator and maintainer of the open source software tool Bandcamp Enhancement Suite (BES) (which seeks to make finding music easier for DJs). The name--Dataist--is a references to Dadaism reflecting his interest in the intersection of technology and music; using the precision of modern technology and the absurdity of dance music to create new experiences.
