Event Description
Join us on April 23rd, 7:30PM at Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum for an exploration of a resource we are fortunate to have in abundance.
Victoria residents enjoy some of the best water in the world. It comes at the turn of a tap, soft, safe and delicious. But if you lived in downtown Victoria in 1865, where would your drinking water have come from? Learn more about this resource we too often take for granted. It is a wonderful story of foresight in the public acquisition of the lands to secure a high quality and reliable supply of water for the community.
Joel Ussery will focus on the importance of supplying the water reservoirs and the expansions of the water system to meet our area’s growing demand. Joel has lived on SE Vancouver Island since 1985. He worked for the CRD water department for 25 years in Watershed Protection, and is a big fan of Greater Victoria's publicly-owned water supply system. There will also be a screening of ‘Ensuring a Resilience Supply’, a short film by Charles and Eric Tolman. Film and illustrated lecture 7:30pm Tickets are $10 and must be booked in advance online at https://tinyurl.com/VictoriaWater . All proceeds support the volunteer based Ross Bay Villa Society, which owns and operates Ross Bay Villa, a restored heritage home from 1865.
