Ever thought about fixing your clothes but not sure how?
Come hang out with us for a creative, hands-on craft afternoon for youth aged 16–30, where we’ll explore how caring for our clothes can reduce textile waste - and actually be fun.
This free workshop combines a short, engaging intro to the social and environmental impacts of fashion, with a focus on local textile waste issues on Vancouver Island, followed by a relaxed, creative mending session. No prior skills needed.
You’ll learn practical repair techniques like:
Button sewing
Patch-making with fun natural motifs (stars, leaves, bugs 🌿✨)
Sashiko (Decorative and repair embroidery)
The goal? To show that repairing clothes can be creative, empowering, and satisfying - and a great alternative to fast fashion.
The event takes place at Little Gladstone Studio (Fernwood/North Park) in a welcoming, inclusive, and wheelchair-accessible space. All materials are second-hand and sourced from SUPPLY Creative Reuse Store, keeping things low-impact.
Expect a cozy, friendly atmosphere where you can express yourself, meet like-minded people from your neighbourhood, and maybe even make a new friend or two. You’ll also go home with a mini mending kit and a small zine filled with repair tips and facts, so you can keep the momentum going.
Educational support is provided by Threading Change, a youth-led NGO, and the workshop is free, thanks to Neighbourhood Small Grants.
✨ Come for the crafting, stay for the community - and leave with repaired clothes and a fresh perspective on fashion. ✨
