Get ready to celebrate International Women's Day with a powerful movie screening featuring Breakaway Femmes!
Presented by ASSOS of Switzerland
Join us for a special celebration of women in cycling and a rare opportunity to watch Breakaway Femmes. Released last year and featured in multiple film festivals, we’re proud to bring it to you in North Vancouver for one night only.
We’re also thrilled to be joined by inspiring women who competed in the Tour de France Féminin in the 1980s, along with local athletes for a brief panel discussion following the movie. They’ll share stories and discuss the vital role women play in cycling today, and why it’s so important to keep taking space.
Date: Sunday, March 8th, 2026
Time: 6:00-9:00PM
Who's invited: Everyone
*All proceeds of this event will be donated to the North Shore Women's Centre.
About Breakaway Femmes
It only lasted 6 years, but it was a hell of a ride. The untold story of the halcyon era of women’s professional cycling.
For six glorious years during the 1980s, the Tour de France held a women’s race alongside the men’s race. These women raced over the same cobblestones, conquered the same mountains, and were cheered by the same throng of adoring crowds as the men.
The women’s race delivered underdog victories, great rivalries, and immense feats of courage. Along the way they battled financial hardship, injuries, discrimination, derision, the emerging doping culture and logistical nightmares. But they also found something else, an inner strength and a bond of sisterhood that would last the rest of their lives. Ultimately their race was cancelled, and their heroic deeds have been almost forgotten.
More than three decades later, older and wiser, the women look back at their brief moment at the pinnacle of cycling. What did they lose? What did they gain?
And what can these pioneers of women’s sports offer to the next generation who dare to dream?
